Adrian Newey Already Making a ‘Huge Impact’ at Aston Martin, Says de la Rosa

Adrian Newey’s move from Red Bull to Aston Martin has already begun to reshape the team’s future  even before a single car under his direction hits the track. According to Aston Martin ambassador Pedro de la Rosa, the F1 design legend is making a “huge influence” behind the scenes as he focuses on the team’s 2026 car.

Newey, widely regarded as one of the greatest technical minds in Formula 1 history, shocked the paddock with his decision to leave Red Bull. Now fully dedicated to Aston Martin’s 2026 project, Newey is working on exploiting every potential advantage within the upcoming regulation changes — and he’s wasting no time in getting involved.

“Adrian has a huge influence not only because he is the most talented aerodynamicist to ever be in Formula 1, but also because having him on the team brings inspiration to others,” de la Rosa told F1sport.auto.cz

Newey’s reputation goes far beyond aerodynamics. Over the years, he’s become known for his ability to see the broader technical picture — from chassis design to driver comfort. He often steps in when teams are stuck in narrow thinking, offering fresh, performance-focused solutions that others may overlook.

Although Aston Martin’s current form hasn’t taken a major leap in 2025, that’s not unexpected. Newey’s attention is locked on the long game  building a competitive machine for the all-new 2026 regulations. Internally, his presence has already energized the team, sparking innovation and encouraging collaboration across departments.

Newey’s early involvement is already guiding Aston Martin’s engineers toward new design philosophies. While results won’t come overnight, his influence is setting the groundwork for what could be a breakthrough season in 2026.

For Aston Martin, Newey’s arrival represents more than just a marquee signing  it’s a statement of intent and a turning point in their pursuit of championship contention.
