Aston Martin team principal Mike Krack has expressed concern over the team’s ongoing challenges in developing its Formula 1 car during the season, marking the second consecutive year where in-season improvements have fallen short. Krack has called for a critical review of the team’s systems to address the issue and prevent further stagnation in performance.
“This is a concern we cannot ignore,” Krack admitted. “We need to take a hard look at our systems and processes to ensure we can match the development pace of our rivals moving forward.”
The Silverstone-based team started the 2023 season with great promise, as Fernando Alonso emerged as a strong challenger to Max Verstappen in the early stages. Aston Martin’s competitive start sparked hopes of a breakthrough season, but the team struggled to maintain its momentum. Rivals such as Mercedes, McLaren, and Ferrari outpaced Aston Martin in car development, resulting in a gradual slide down the grid as the season progressed.
Despite significant investments in infrastructure and personnel in recent years, Aston Martin’s inability to sustain its early-season form has raised questions about the effectiveness of its internal processes. The team is now focusing on identifying and resolving the root causes of their development shortcomings to remain competitive in future campaigns.
“We have the resources and talent to compete at the highest level, but we need to ensure our systems are optimized for continuous improvement throughout the season,” Krack added.
As Aston Martin looks ahead to 2025, the team is under pressure to translate its strong early performances into consistent results across the calendar, ensuring it can challenge for podiums and victories against F1’s top teams.
