Aston Martin has appointed Daniel Juncadella as their new Simulator Driver for the 2025 Formula 1 season. The Spanish driver, who brings a wealth of experience in both single-seater and sportscar racing, will be a crucial asset in the team’s efforts to bounce back after a disappointing 2024 season. While Aston Martin had a strong 2023, securing several podium finishes, their performance in 2024 significantly dropped, with both Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll struggling to extract performance from the AMR24. This led to a fifth-place finish in the Constructors’ Championship, a setback for the team after their previous success.

Juncadella’s primary role will involve working with the team’s simulator at the AMR Technology Campus in Silverstone. He will assist in various aspects, including car development, setup optimization, and enhancing race strategies. Additionally, his input will help improve the car’s overall performance. Juncadella, who began his duties during the 2024 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix week, has previous experience with Aston Martin, having been a Reserve Driver for the team in 2014. This background, combined with his extensive racing knowledge, will make him an important figure in the team’s recovery process.

Alongside Juncadella’s appointment, Aston Martin is also bolstering its future prospects with the anticipated arrival of renowned aerodynamicist Adrian Newey in 2025. Newey’s expertise in car design is expected to provide a significant boost to the team, helping them improve the AMR25 and regain competitiveness in the Formula 1 championship. Juncadella, who has recently been racing in the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) with TF Sport, is eager to contribute to Aston Martin’s resurgence and help the team return to the front of the grid.

Aston Martin’s management is determined to address the challenges that plagued their 2024 season, and the addition of Juncadella is just one of several strategic moves aimed at rebuilding the team’s momentum. With a renewed focus on car development, the team is hoping that these changes will help them regain their place among the top teams in Formula 1. Aston Martin is committed to improving its performance, challenging for victories, and ultimately fighting for the Constructors’ Championship in the future. With the combination of experienced drivers, skilled technical staff, and a strong ambition, the team is aiming for a successful comeback in 2025 and beyond.
