Axed F1 star’s NEW racing venture revealed
A recently ousted Formula 1 driver is set to make a quick return to racing, thanks to an opportunity to test his skills o track once again.
The current Formula 1 season has been exhilarating, with Max Verstappen and Lando Norris fiercely competing for the drivers’ championship.
Red Bull’s dominance has also been challenged, with McLaren and Ferrari now in serious contention for the constructors’ title.
However, the season hasn’t been a success for everyone, especially for a few drivers who faced difficult circumstances and were ultimately replaced midseason.
One such driver, Daniel Ricciardo, had been hoping to secure a full-time contract with his former team, Red Bull.
However, after struggling to meet expectations at VCARB, where he signed on in 2023, Ricciardo lost his seat to Liam Lawson following the Singapore Grand Prix.
Now 35 years old, Ricciardo may be at the end of his Formula 1 career, and he is carefully considering his options as he moves forward.
Ricciardo’s departure was preceded by another midseason exit, as Logan Sargeant was also let go from his seat at Williams.
The 23-year-old American had a difficult rookie season in 2023, and despite his optimism going into the current season, he was unable to improve significantly. This led Williams to replace him with Franco Colapinto.
After some time away from the racing world, Sargeant is now preparing for a comeback.
It has been confirmed that he will take part in an IndyCar test session with Meyer Shank Racing later this month at The Thermal Club in California.
This opportunity allows him to get back behind the wheel and potentially reignite his racing career.
However, it’s worth noting that this test is not an official audition for a permanent position with the team.
Meyer Shank Racing has already secured drivers Felix Rosenqvist and Marcus Armstrong for their 2025 lineup, making it unlikely that Sargeant would join as a full-time driver.
Even so, there are still open seats for the upcoming IndyCar season, and a strong performance during the test on November 19 could improve Sargeant’s chances of securing a spot on the grid.
Team co-owner Michael Shank explained to IndyCar.com that they viewed Sargeant’s availability as a valuable opportunity.
“When his deal at Williams fell through, I thought, ‘Well, he holds a Super License and performed well, so why not see where this leads us,’” Shank said. He further noted that testing drivers with a Super License is beneficial for teams.
With a positive showing during the upcoming test, Sargeant could keep his motorsport career alive and potentially find a new home within IndyCar racing.
