Carlos Sainz Responds to Lighthearted Balding Accusations from F1 Rivals

Formula 1 driver Carlos Sainz recently found himself at the center of an unexpected and humorous paddock controversy — over his hair. The Spanish driver, currently enjoying time in the spotlight as a brand ambassador for L’Oréal’s Elvive haircare range, has had his luscious locks questioned by none other than his own teammate, Alex Albon, and the cheeky social media team from Racing Bulls.

It all began when Albon, known for his playful banter in the F1 paddock, jokingly remarked that Sainz might be going bald. The comment, while clearly made in jest, sparked a ripple effect that drew in the Racing Bulls team, who saw an opportunity to join the fun. The team’s social media crew amplified the playful accusation, suggesting that perhaps the 30-year-old driver’s hair wasn’t as full as it seemed.

The timing of the jab couldn’t have been more ironic. Sainz had recently appeared in a high-profile advertising campaign for L’Oréal Elvive, zipping through the romantic streets of Paris on a motorbike while showing off his trademark dark, thick hair — a symbol of the brand’s promise of healthy and strong hair. With his new role in the beauty and grooming world, any questions about the state of his hair were bound to catch attention.

F1 paddock photographer and popular social media figure Kym Illman offered some amusing insight into the situation. Taking to Instagram, Illman explained how the lighthearted teasing had unfolded behind the scenes. “So, is Carlos Sainz going bald?” Illman asked in a video recap. “That was the question stirred up by the VCARB [Racing Bulls] social media team. From what I could gather, Alex Albon made the initial comment, and once it got back to Carlos, he didn’t take it lying down.”

Sainz, well aware of the buzz, was quick to address the claim. Illman described the Spaniard as being slightly taken aback by the notion, but eager to clear things up. “He was very quick to show the person who asked that he absolutely has plenty of hair,” Illman shared, adding that Sainz appeared to take the teasing in good spirits, showing no sign of actual hair loss.

Over the years, Sainz has gained a bit of a reputation in the F1 community for having one of the best heads of hair on the grid. Illman even placed him in his personal top three when it comes to F1 hair. “It’s lustrous, it’s magnificent,” he said, praising the driver’s consistently well-groomed appearance.

While Sainz is now 30, there’s good reason to believe his hair isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. His father, Carlos Sainz Sr., is still sporting a strong head of hair at the age of 63, further squashing any concerns about early balding being hereditary.

Ultimately, it seems the entire exchange was nothing more than good-natured paddock banter, with Albon likely just stirring the pot. Sainz, meanwhile, can rest easy — and run his fingers through his hair with confidence — knowing that his place as an F1 hair icon remains unchallenged.
