Celtic set to miss out on defensive transfer… Read More.

Celtic appear set to miss out on defensive target Hugo Bueno, as the Wolves left-back is reportedly on the verge of joining Feyenoord on a season-long loan.

Bueno, a 21-year-old Spaniard, had been linked with Celtic back in January, though no transfer materialized.

With Greg Taylor as Celtic’s only recognized left-back and his contract entering its final year, the club has been exploring options to bolster that position.

Recent speculation had reignited the possibility of Celtic pursuing Bueno, but it now seems Feyenoord has moved quickly to secure the defender.

The Dutch club, facing a similar need for left-back cover, has reached an agreement with Wolverhampton Wanderers to bring Bueno to De Kuip.

Feyenoord coach Brian Priske is looking for Bueno to fill the gap left by Quilindschy Hartman, who is recovering from a severe knee injury.

The new signing will compete with Gijs Smal, who joined Feyenoord from FC Twente on a free transfer but was sidelined due to injury during preseason. Smal is now fit again, setting up a competition between the two for the left-back position.

The arrival of Bueno at Feyenoord could spell the end for Marcos López at the club.

The Peruvian international was the only specialized left-back during preseason and played a key role in Feyenoord’s victory over PSV in the Johan Cruijff Shield final.

Celtic’s pursuit of a left-back remains unresolved as the transfer window approaches its final weeks. The club had also been linked with Liverpool’s Owen Beck in January, with those rumors resurfacing recently.

Meanwhile, Matthew Anderson, who participated in Celtic’s preseason friendlies, did not make the bench for the recent 4-0 victory over Kilmarnock, where Taylor played the full match.

Other options within the squad, such as Liam Scales and Tony Ralston, have played at left-back previously but do not favor that position.

With time running out in the transfer window, Celtic fans will be expecting the club to secure another left-back to provide cover and competition for

Taylor.
