F1 Results Today: Constructors’ champions crowned as Hamilton was HEROICS on show

In an action-packed Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, Lando Norris delivered a dominant performance to secure a sensational victory and, in doing so, helped McLaren clinch the 2024 Formula 1 Constructors’ Championship. Norris’ victory, his first of the season, was a brilliant display of skill and composure as he led from start to finish, with Ferrari drivers Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc following in second and third, respectively. Although Sainz and Leclerc finished behind, Norris’ triumph earned McLaren the crucial 25 points, putting them out of reach for any other team to challenge the championship.

The race got off to a chaotic start, filled with incidents and drama. Max Verstappen, who started from pole position, made contact with Oscar Piastri on the first corner. The collision spun Piastri out of contention and forced Verstappen to serve a 10-second penalty. The early chaos didn’t end there. On the opening lap, Sergio Perez was spun by Valtteri Bottas, who was involved in multiple incidents throughout the race. This contact with Perez forced the Red Bull driver to retire early from the race, marking a frustrating outing for the Mexican.

Despite the early setbacks, Norris kept his focus and delivered a clinical drive. His performance helped McLaren secure a monumental victory in the Constructors’ standings, further cementing the team’s remarkable progress over the season.

Lewis Hamilton provided one of the most dramatic moments of the race. In his final Grand Prix with Mercedes after 12 years with the team, Hamilton produced a spectacular comeback. Starting from 16th on the grid, Hamilton steadily worked his way through the field, showing why he is one of the best drivers in F1 history. In the closing stages of the race, he began to make up ground rapidly, reducing a 14-second gap to his teammate George Russell. On the final lap, Hamilton made a daring overtake to finish in fourth, adding a touch of heroism to his Mercedes farewell.

It wasn’t a good race for the drivers who are expected to be without a seat for the 2025 season. Valtteri Bottas, who has already confirmed his departure from F1, retired after making contact with Kevin Magnussen, another driver likely to leave the sport. Franco Colapinto also faced a tough end to his career at Williams, retiring from the race due to a technical issue.

In a thrilling finale to the 2024 season, McLaren’s Constructors’ Championship victory was a testament to their remarkable progress, while Norris’ win showed the team’s potential for the future. Meanwhile, Hamilton’s final race for Mercedes added a fittingly dramatic conclusion to his long and successful tenure with the team. The race also marked the end for several drivers, as F1 bids farewell to familiar faces ahead of the 2025 season.
