Coulthard slams Hamilton after a tough 2024: ‘The biggest disappointment’
The 2024 Formula 1 season, the longest in the sport’s history, delivered a mix of highs and lows, leaving plenty to reflect on during the winter break.
Former F1 driver David Coulthard has labeled Lewis Hamilton as the season’s biggest disappointment, a surprising assessment of the seven-time world champion.
The year began with the bombshell announcement that Hamilton would leave Mercedes for Ferrari in 2025.
Despite the anticipation, his 2024 campaign proved challenging.
Hamilton was frequently overshadowed by teammate George Russell, particularly in qualifying sessions, raising questions about his performance.
Initially, Coulthard pointed to Logan Sargeant as the most disappointing driver of the season.
However, Sargeant’s mid-season departure after Zandvoort led to a reshuffle at Williams, with rookie Franco Colapinto stepping in and performing well.
As a result, Coulthard shifted his focus to Hamilton, naming him the most disappointing driver for the full season.
Speaking to Viaplay, Coulthard explained his reasoning: “If we exclude Logan, Lewis has been the biggest letdown.
As a seven-time world champion and a winning machine, he’s set incredibly high standards, but this season, he was unrecognizable.”
The former Williams, McLaren, and Red Bull driver expressed surprise at Hamilton’s underwhelming performances.
Now officially a Ferrari driver, Hamilton will aim to bounce back in 2025 with the iconic Italian team, hoping to reignite his championship-winning form and silence his critics.
