F1 2025 Singapore Grand Prix: Final Results Confirmed After Hamilton’s Late Penalty

The FIA has released the official and final classification for the 2025 Formula 1 Singapore Grand Prix, confirming a post-race penalty that altered the finishing order after the chequered flag.

George Russell claimed a commanding victory under the Marina Bay lights, marking his fifth career win and another milestone in his growing success with Mercedes. The British driver led from start to finish with a flawless performance, keeping a consistent gap over Max Verstappen, who brought his Red Bull home in second place. Lando Norris completed the podium for McLaren, finishing third after an aggressive opening lap in which he overtook team-mate Oscar Piastri.

Norris’s early move set the tone for McLaren’s strong showing, though it briefly caused tension between the two young drivers. Piastri ultimately finished fourth, a result that proved crucial for the Woking-based team. With both cars finishing inside the top four, McLaren sealed the Constructors’ Championship for the 10th time in their history — a major achievement after years of rebuilding and consistency.

Behind the leading quartet, Kimi Antonelli delivered an impressive drive to finish fifth in the second Mercedes, while Charles Leclerc brought home sixth for Ferrari. Fernando Alonso finished seventh for Aston Martin, gaining a position late in the evening following a penalty to Lewis Hamilton.

Hamilton’s night was one to forget despite showing flashes of strong pace throughout the race. The Ferrari driver had been battling a brake issue in the closing stages and was penalised after repeatedly exceeding track limits. He was shown the black and white flag for three violations, but a fourth infringement triggered an automatic five-second time penalty.

The sanction cost Hamilton a position, demoting him from seventh to eighth place, dropping him behind Alonso in the final standings. While he managed to record the fastest lap of the race — clocking a 1:33.808 on Lap 48 — the new 2025 regulations meant that no point was awarded for the achievement.

Oliver Bearman impressed once again for Haas, finishing ninth after a solid and mature drive, while Carlos Sainz rounded out the top ten for Williams, finishing one lap down. The rest of the classified finishers included Isack Hadjar and Yuki Tsunoda for Racing Bulls and Red Bull respectively, along with Lance Stroll, Alex Albon, Liam Lawson, and Franco Colapinto, all finishing a lap behind the leaders. Gabriel Bortoleto, Esteban Ocon, and Pierre Gasly completed the order, with Nico Hülkenberg classified last for Kick Sauber.

The 2025 race also marked the first Singapore Grand Prix held under new FIA rules that abolish the fastest lap point, a regulation that had been in place since 2019. The decision was made after several controversial moments in previous seasons where drivers pitted late in the race solely to snatch the bonus point.

A memorable example came in 2024, when Daniel Ricciardo — in his final F1 race — set the fastest lap on the final circuit despite finishing last, taking the point away from Lando Norris and indirectly boosting Verstappen’s title chances.

With the rule now scrapped, the FIA aims to encourage more strategic integrity during races, ensuring results are decided on performance rather than opportunistic tyre changes.
