JUST IN: F1 legend Michael Schumacher’s Wife Corinna drops Emotional update
In a rare and emotional update, Corinna Schumacher, wife of Formula 1 legend Michael Schumacher, shared insights into her husband’s condition during the 2021 Netflix documentary Schumacher. Since Michael’s tragic skiing accident in December 2013, where he sustained severe brain injuries, the family has maintained strict privacy around his health, leaving fans with very few updates. As a result, any information shared by the family is significant and widely anticipated by the public.
Michael Schumacher, a seven-time Formula 1 world champion, was involved in a life-changing accident while skiing in the French Alps. During the accident, he hit his head on a rock despite wearing a helmet, and the impact caused critical brain injuries. Schumacher was placed in a medically induced coma for several months following the accident. Since being moved home, his family has closely guarded his privacy, ensuring minimal information about his condition is made public.
One of the few people who have been allowed to visit Schumacher and provide updates is former Ferrari team principal Jean Todt. Todt, who worked with Schumacher for many years during his racing career, gave a rare glimpse into Schumacher’s condition in 2022 during an interview with the French newspaper L’Equipe. Reflecting on his relationship with the racing icon, Todt stated, “Michael is here, so I don’t miss him. But he’s not the same Michael we once knew. He is different now and is wonderfully cared for by his wife and children, who protect him.” Todt added, “His life has changed, and I feel privileged to share moments with him.”
Corinna, who has been her husband’s primary caregiver and protector, explained in the Schumacher documentary why she has chosen to maintain such a high level of privacy regarding his condition. She referenced Michael’s belief in maintaining a private life, a value he held even before his accident. “Michael always believed that ‘private is private,’ and we, as a family, have continued to live by that,” she said. “It’s very important to me that he can still enjoy as much of his private life as possible. He protected us, and now we are protecting him.”
Corinna also opened up about the emotional toll Schumacher’s condition has taken on her and their family. She expressed the profound sense of loss they all feel, even though Michael is still physically present. “I miss Michael every day,” she shared. “But it’s not just me who misses him. It’s the children, the family, his father—everyone around him. Everybody misses Michael. But Michael is still here, just different. Every day, he shows me how strong he is.”
Despite the overwhelming sadness, Corinna revealed that she has never placed blame on anyone or anything for what happened to her husband. Instead, she has come to terms with the accident as an unfortunate stroke of fate. “I’ve never blamed God for what happened,” she reflected. “It was just bad luck—the worst kind of bad luck anyone can have.”
While Corinna has remained steadfast in her commitment to protecting her husband’s privacy, these rare glimpses into the Schumacher family’s life provide insight into the enduring strength and love that have helped them navigate such a difficult journey. Despite the immense challenges, Corinna continues to lead her family with grace, ensuring that Michael’s dignity and privacy are respected while also coping with the heartbreaking reality of his condition.
