F1 team boss ‘wants’ SHOCK driver switch before 2025 season
The Formula 1 grid for the 2025 season is shaping up after a whirlwind period of driver changes and team reshuffles.
According to reports, one team boss is reportedly reconsidering a recent driver signing, potentially setting the stage for a surprise swap before the start of the new season.
Lewis Hamilton’s headline-making move to Ferrari, confirmed before the 2024 season, set off a domino effect across the grid.
In his place at Mercedes, 18-year-old racing prodigy Kimi Antonelli is stepping up to take over Hamilton’s spot, making him one of the youngest drivers to represent the iconic team.
Meanwhile, Haas is bringing in another young talent, Ollie Bearman, who will race alongside Alpine’s current driver Esteban Ocon in 2025.
This lineup change follows Nico Hulkenberg’s decision to leave Haas and join Sauber/Audi.
At Alpine, the team has chosen rookie driver Jack Doohan to fill the seat alongside Pierre Gasly in 2025.
The 21-year-old Doohan, son of motorcycle legend Mick Doohan, has been serving as Alpine’s reserve driver and now looks set for his first full-time Formula 1 season. However, there are already rumors casting doubt on his position.
According to sources, Williams’ standout driver Franco Colapinto may be Alpine’s preferred choice over Doohan.
Colapinto, who joined Williams in 2024 after replacing Logan Sargeant, has delivered an impressive season despite the team’s struggles, scoring five points and competing closely with his experienced teammate, Alex Albon.
His strong performance with Williams has reportedly drawn the interest of Alpine.
The Swiss publication Blick reports that Alpine team principal Flavio Briatore recently reached out to former F1 boss Bernie Ecclestone to express interest in Colapinto for the 2025 season.
When asked about these speculations, Ecclestone offered a cryptic response: “In Formula 1, anything is possible. Until the money is in the bank.”
Alpine, for its part, has not issued any statements confirming or denying the rumors around a possible switch involving Doohan and Colapinto.
Should the switch happen, it would add yet another layer of excitement to a grid already packed with young talent and bold moves.
As the 2025 season approaches, teams are finalizing their lineups, but surprises could still be in store.
