Fernando Alonso to Race in Brazil After Treatment for Intestinal Infection

Aston Martin’s Fernando Alonso will miss Thursday’s media day for the Sao Paulo Grand Prix as he completes medical treatment for an intestinal infection. The two-time champion traveled back to Europe following the Mexico City Grand Prix to consult a specialist after feeling unwell prior to the race weekend.

Aston Martin confirmed that the extra day of treatment delayed Alonso’s arrival in Brazil, though the team is confident he will be ready for the weekend’s action. Alonso had also missed media obligations in Mexico, where he marked his 400th grand prix start.

This weekend’s Sao Paulo Grand Prix is part of Formula 1’s sprint format, featuring a shortened Saturday race in addition to the main grand prix on Sunday. The schedule begins with a single practice session on Friday, followed by a qualifying session to determine the grid for the sprint race on Saturday. Later on Saturday, there will be a separate qualifying round for Sunday’s main event.

In the constructors’ championship, McLaren currently leads the competition ahead of Ferrari and Red Bull, while Red Bull driver Max Verstappen holds a 47-point lead over McLaren’s Lando Norris in the drivers’ standings with four races remaining in the season.
