Ferrari driver EXIT confirmed in official statement
Ferrari has officially confirmed the departure of one of their reserve drivers, Robert Shwartzman, ahead of significant changes to their lineup for the 2025 season.
The news comes as part of a broader reshuffle at the Scuderia, with Lewis Hamilton set to replace Carlos Sainz as one of their main drivers.
This move creates a high-profile partnership between the most successful team in Formula 1 and its most decorated driver, Hamilton.
Shwartzman, who has participated in two practice sessions with Ferrari in 2024, will not be continuing with the team.
The announcement of his departure follows his recent move to IndyCar, where he will race for Prema Racing starting in 2025.
His decision to transition to IndyCar signals the end of his ambitions for a full-time Formula 1 seat, with his role at Ferrari now concluded.
Ferrari expressed gratitude for Shwartzman’s contributions to the team over the years in their official statement.
The departure also adds to the growing list of changes within the Scuderia for 2025, as the team gears up for the arrival of Hamilton.
In addition to the departure of Shwartzman, Ferrari’s junior driver, Ollie Bearman, will be promoted to a full-time seat at Haas, following Nico Hulkenberg’s decision to leave for Sauber.
With Hamilton’s arrival, Ferrari’s reserve driver pool will shrink, leaving the team with fewer options for backup drivers should any of their primary drivers, Hamilton or Charles Leclerc, require replacements during certain sessions.
Shwartzman took to social media to express his appreciation for the opportunity to work with Ferrari, calling it one of the best experiences of his life.
He recalled the special moment of driving a Scuderia Ferrari F1 car for the first time and thanked the team for helping shape him into a better driver.
He also expressed his gratitude to Ferrari’s supporters, the tifosi, and to those within the team who believed in him throughout his journey.
With a heartfelt message, Shwartzman looks ahead to his future in IndyCar, carrying with him cherished memories from his time with Ferrari.
