Lewis Hamilton Voted Most Disappointing Figure of the 2025 F1 Season So Far

Formula 1 fans have delivered a stinging assessment of Lewis Hamilton’s performance in the 2025 season, with the seven-time world champion being voted the biggest disappointment so far. According to a recent RacingNews365 fan poll, Hamilton received the most votes in a category labeled “negative surprises,” despite the names being listed alphabetically to avoid bias. While he didn’t secure a majority, his 31.80% share was the highest among all choices.

This verdict comes during a turbulent start to Hamilton’s much-publicized move to Ferrari, following over a decade of driving for Mercedes. Expectations were sky-high when Hamilton announced he’d join the Scuderia, with many fans and pundits hoping this career shift would revive his title chances. However, his debut season in red has gotten off to an underwhelming start.

Although there was a glimmer of success with a sprint race victory in China, Hamilton has largely struggled to find form with the new SF-25 car. The early-season triple-header — consisting of races in Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, and Japan — was particularly difficult. In Jeddah, Hamilton’s performance drew attention for the wrong reasons as he finished a concerning 31 seconds behind his teammate Charles Leclerc. His post-race comments reflected frustration and uncertainty, as he admitted he couldn’t understand the loss of pace or how to find a better balance with the car’s setup.

Fans appear to be losing patience, especially given the buzz surrounding his Ferrari debut. Many anticipated that Hamilton’s experience would help Ferrari close the gap to front-runners like Red Bull and McLaren, but the team’s persistent technical and strategic issues have continued to hold them back. Leclerc has been able to extract more performance from the SF-25, further highlighting Hamilton’s struggles and widening the gap between the teammates.

Trailing Hamilton in the poll was Liam Lawson, with 19.34% of the votes. The young New Zealander briefly drove for Red Bull but was sidelined after only two races. Many fans expressed disappointment in how his opportunity was handled, arguing that he demonstrated promise and deserved more time to prove himself.

Red Bull Racing itself was the third most cited “disappointment,” securing 16.61% of the vote. While still considered a dominant force in the sport, the team has come under fire for internal politics, questionable decision-making, and off-track controversies, including how it manages its drivers.

Hamilton’s rocky start has reignited debates about Ferrari’s long-standing performance issues. While Leclerc has occasionally managed to challenge the front-runners, the SF-25 lacks the consistency and race pace needed to consistently compete at the top. Ferrari’s reliability and tactical decisions remain key weaknesses.

Despite the criticism, Hamilton is known for his determination and ability to bounce back. As the season progresses, he and the Ferrari team will be working intensely to unlock more potential from the car and turn their fortunes around. Still, if results don’t improve soon, the pressure — and fan scrutiny — will only continue to grow.
