Ferrari has maintained a measured silence amid growing scrutiny over the contrasting performances of its drivers, Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc, during the 2025 Formula 1 season. While Leclerc has secured multiple podium finishes, including a third-place at the Spanish Grand Prix, Hamilton continues to struggle, finishing sixth in Barcelona despite starting fifth. This disparity has raised questions about internal dynamics and the team’s strategic direction.

Hamilton, a seven-time world champion, has openly expressed frustration with his performance and the car’s setup. After the Spanish Grand Prix, he described the race as “terrible” and admitted uncertainty about the underlying issues affecting his performance. He also voiced concerns over the car’s balance and handling, stating, “Something is wrong with this car,” and doubted the team’s ability to resolve the problems, adding, “I’m sure they won’t” .

Team Principal Fred Vasseur has defended Hamilton, attributing some of the challenges to technical issues and emphasizing the need for patience as Hamilton adapts to the team’s systems. Vasseur dismissed concerns about internal discord, highlighting the ongoing communication between the drivers and the team .

Leclerc, on the other hand, has praised the positive changes within Ferrari, noting a shift in focus towards internal development and performance rather than external noise. He believes Hamilton’s arrival has brought valuable experience and motivation to the team, stating that the team is now less affected by external factors and more concentrated on their work .

Despite the challenges, Ferrari has managed to climb to second place in the Constructors’ Championship, capitalizing on issues faced by rivals. The team acknowledges the SF-25’s competitiveness issues and is focusing on technical improvements, particularly in suspension, to enhance performance .

As the season progresses, Ferrari’s management of the contrasting fortunes of Hamilton and Leclerc will be crucial. The team’s ability to address technical challenges and maintain harmony between its drivers will determine its success in the highly competitive Formula 1 landscape.
