FIA Scraps Fastest Lap Bonus Point for 2025 Season, Announces Key Regulation Updates
Following the latest FIA World Motor Sport Council meeting, the bonus point for the fastest lap in a Grand Prix will be discontinued starting from the 2025 season. The council, led by FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem, also approved minor revisions to the Sporting and Technical regulations. One notable change is the increase in the mandatory participation of ‘young drivers’ in free practice sessions, from once to twice per season.
Additionally, a comprehensive update to the 2026 Technical Regulations was introduced, aiming to enhance clarity by organizing rules into thematic sections. Aerodynamic advancements will also feature prominently, as the FIA works closely with F1 teams to refine the 2026 ruleset. These adjustments will be finalized in the coming months.
