Team Principal urges solution to SF-25’s balance issues as Leclerc and Hamilton fall behind
Ferrari team boss Fred Vasseur has called for immediate action to address the SF-25’s persistent balance issues, admitting the team is “struggling” after another difficult start to a Grand Prix weekend.
The Scuderia has faced an uphill battle this season, with both Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton regularly voicing concerns about the car’s inconsistency—particularly in qualifying. While the SF-25 has shown flashes of competitive race pace, poor grid positions have made it difficult for the team to capitalise.
“It’s no secret that we’re having a tough time with the car’s balance, and we need to improve,” Vasseur told Sky Sports F1. “We must get better over a single lap. It’s mostly about managing the tyres and making sure they’re in the right operating window at the start of a lap. The balance isn’t ideal—yes—but that’s not unique to us.”
As focus gradually shifts toward the 2026 regulation changes, Ferrari is under increasing pressure to find solutions and remain in contention this season. During Friday’s second practice session in Spain, Leclerc placed fifth, while Hamilton ended up 11th after dealing with a technical problem.
The session also marked the first with new regulations aimed at reducing front wing flexibility. Ferrari introduced an updated front wing in Barcelona, but Vasseur warned that it’s still too early to judge its effect.
“It’s premature to draw conclusions,” he said. “In a tightly packed field, even a tenth of a second can dramatically shift qualifying results. Just look at Bahrain—five cars within three-tenths. A minor difference can completely change the starting order, and overtaking is so tough now that it can define the race.”
With time running out and the stakes rising, Vasseur knows Ferrari can’t afford to wait any longer. Fixing the SF-25’s balance issues could be the key to turning their season around.
