Hamilton Challenges F1 Boss Domenicali Over Wet-Weather Call After Brazilian GP Qualifying Postponed
Lewis Hamilton expressed his frustration after rain-soaked conditions at Interlagos forced the postponement of Saturday’s qualifying session for the Sao Paulo Grand Prix. Heavy rainfall left parts of the track with significant standing water, leading officials to deem it unsafe despite efforts by marshals to clear it.
During an interview outside the Mercedes garage, Formula 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali was discussing the delay with F1 TV host Will Buxton when Hamilton interrupted. The seven-time World Champion approached Domenicali, greeted him warmly, then voiced his desire to get back on track. “You should have sent us out,” Hamilton remarked. “This is ridiculous, we should go out! I want to go out.”
Domenicali, sharing in Hamilton’s frustration, replied, “Me too.” Hamilton, however, pushed further, advocating for better equipment in such conditions. “Give us better wet tyres with blankets, we would be able to run in this – I’m putting you on the spot!” he joked, finishing with a laugh and an embrace with the F1 CEO.
Hamilton’s comments come with a touch of history—he famously won his first World Championship in Brazil in wet conditions in 2008, making him no stranger to the challenges of a rain-drenched Interlagos. As alternative plans for qualifying were being arranged, Hamilton’s lighthearted challenge highlighted his eagerness to compete despite the adverse weather, emphasizing his comfort and confidence in the wet.
