“Hamilton Frustrated by Consistency Issues with W15 After Qualifying Sixth in Mexico”
Lewis Hamilton expressed frustration with his Mercedes W15 after qualifying sixth for the Mexico City Grand Prix, noting that inconsistency has hampered every qualifying session this season. Despite promising balance during final practice, Hamilton struggled in qualifying and fell behind teammate George Russell, who is running the older-spec car.
“The car felt good in FP3, but in qualifying, it completely changed,” Hamilton said. “It’s like the car flips on its head.” He explained that the updated W15’s fluctuating ride height and tendency to “three-wheel” created handling issues. Hamilton’s goal for Sunday’s race is to gather data for comparing the upgraded car to Russell’s older-spec version, even though he feels Mercedes is far from competing with the front-runners.
Meanwhile, Russell was pleased with his own performance, especially considering the repairs needed after a crash in Friday’s practice. “My lap felt really strong,” he said. “After Friday, we’d have taken that.”
