Lewis Hamilton Plans to Create a Ferrari F44 Inspired by the Iconic F40
Lewis Hamilton is looking to extend his partnership with Ferrari beyond Formula 1 by collaborating on a new supercar project. The seven-time world champion has expressed his desire to design a modernized version of the legendary Ferrari F40, naming it the F44—a nod to his racing number.
Hamilton, who recently joined Ferrari’s F1 team, made a visit to Enzo Ferrari’s house, where he posed alongside the classic F40. This model, originally introduced in 1987, was built to commemorate Ferrari’s 40th anniversary and was the last car personally approved by Enzo Ferrari before his passing. Inspired by its legacy, Hamilton wants to develop a vehicle that maintains the F40’s essence while incorporating modern engineering.
The British driver has shared some of his initial ideas, emphasizing his desire to keep the classic stick shift transmission, a feature highly valued by car enthusiasts. He intends to take inspiration from the original F40’s design, ensuring the car retains its raw, performance-driven appeal while upgrading its technology and powertrain.
The original Ferrari F40 was designed under the leadership of Nicola Materazzi, an Italian engineer responsible for other iconic sports cars, including the Ferrari 288 GTO and Bugatti EB110. While Ferrari has yet to confirm its involvement in Hamilton’s F44 project, a collaboration with one of Formula 1’s most successful drivers could be an opportunity too exciting for the Italian marque to pass up.
Beyond his F44 concept, Hamilton has recently demonstrated his admiration for Ferrari’s history in other ways. Earlier this month, he got behind the wheel of a Ferrari 250 GT California Spyder, a classic model that he considers his “dream car.” He even recreated a famous scene from the movie Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, posting the homage on social media. The video quickly gained over a million likes, showing his enthusiasm for Ferrari’s heritage as he embarks on his first season with the Scuderia. With Hamilton’s passion for high-performance cars and Ferrari’s engineering expertise, the F44 project could become a reality in the coming years. If it does, it could be a thrilling tribute to one of the most celebrated supercars of all time, blending nostalgia with cutting-edge performance.
