Over ten years have passed since the tragic skiing accident that changed the life of Formula 1 legend Michael Schumacher. The seven-time world champion, once known for his fearless driving and dominance on the racetrack, has been out of the public eye since he sustained a severe brain injury during a family holiday in the French Alps in December 2013. While his condition remains closely guarded by his family, rare comments from those closest to him offer a touching and emotional glimpse into their world.

In the 2021 Netflix documentary Schumacher, his wife Corinna broke her long silence and gave fans a heartfelt message about their ongoing journey. Fighting back tears, she said, “Michael is here. Different, but he’s here, and that gives us strength.” Her words reveal not only the depth of her love but also the ongoing emotional weight she carries each day. “I miss him every day,” she confessed, “but we are doing everything to make his life as comfortable as possible.”

Corinna’s dedication has often been described as heroic by those who know the family well. She has shielded Michael from the public spotlight, maintaining strict privacy around his condition, while making sure he continues to receive the best possible care at their home in Switzerland. “We’re trying to carry on as a family, the way Michael would have wanted,” she shared. “We live together, we do therapy, we keep doing everything we can. And we will continue.”

Jean Todt, former Ferrari team boss and a close family friend, is among the very few who have been allowed to visit Schumacher. In a recent interview, Todt said, “Michael is in the best hands. He’s surrounded by people who love him. I visit him regularly, and while he’s not the Michael we all remember, he’s fighting.” Todt’s remarks emphasize not only the difficult reality but also the love and care Schumacher is surrounded by.

There have also been troubling moments. The Schumacher family has had to battle unauthorized attempts to share images and private information, including a scandal in 2023 where an AI-generated “interview” was falsely published, sparking legal action.

Still, despite the silence and sadness, the family’s unity and resilience remain inspiring. Michael Schumacher, once a fierce competitor on the track, is now the center of a deeply human story about family, love, and endurance. Though the world may not see or hear from him, his legacy lives on—not only through his historic F1 achievements but also through the quiet, powerful devotion of those who continue to stand by his side every day.
