Horner reveals Red Bull SHORTLIST amid Perez replacement rumours
Christian Horner, Red Bull’s team principal, has addressed growing speculation about Sergio Perez’s future with the team, revealing potential options should a driver change be necessary.
Despite being under contract until the end of 2026, Perez’s performance in the 2024 Formula 1 season has sparked rumors of a replacement for the 2025 campaign.
Perez had a disappointing conclusion to the season, retiring early from the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix following contact and a spin.
His DNF reflected a challenging year with Red Bull, where he finished eighth in the drivers’ standings, a staggering 285 points behind teammate Max Verstappen.
Perez’s inconsistent performances not only impacted his personal standings but also Red Bull’s position in the constructors’ championship, with the team finishing third behind Ferrari and McLaren, who claimed the title.
Ahead of the season finale, reports suggested Perez could be replaced due to his poor results.
Addressing these rumors, Horner acknowledged Perez’s struggles but also highlighted his valuable contributions to Red Bull over the years, including his role in securing two constructors’ championships and the dramatic 2021 season finale.
“Checo has been a significant part of our team,” Horner stated.”He’s done an incredible job for us, and his contributions in the last few years cannot be overlooked. No one likes to see him struggling as he has this season.”
Horner emphasized that Red Bull has a wealth of talent to consider if changes are needed.
He mentioned Isack Hadjar, who recently participated in a free practice session, as well as two promising drivers in their junior program, VCARB.
However, Horner made it clear that no decisions will be made until Perez’s situation and future plans are discussed.
“We’ll sit down and review everything after the season. Until we have clarity on what Sergio wants to do, any talk of replacements is just speculation,” Horner concluded.
Perez’s future with Red Bull remains uncertain, but Horner’s comments suggest the team is exploring all options to maintain its competitive edge in the coming seasons.
