Jos Verstappen Warns Red Bull: “They Need to Look in the Mirror”

Jos Verstappen has delivered a fresh warning to Red Bull Racing, urging the team to “look in the mirror” if it fails to provide a competitive car for his son, Max Verstappen.

After being noticeably absent from the Formula 1 paddock for much of the season, Jos returned this weekend for the Monaco Grand Prix, as Max continues his pursuit of championship leader Oscar Piastri.

Reflecting on his time away during which Red Bull faced tough races like in China Jos believes the break may have been beneficial. “Maybe it was better that I wasn’t there at the time, even for my own peace of mind,” he told De Telegraaf. “You tend to see things differently after a couple of days. But sport is emotional. I only want the best for Max, and if things don’t go right, Red Bull should take a hard look at themselves.”

Rumors of tension between Jos and Red Bull team boss Christian Horner have circulated for some time, but Jos dismissed any suggestion that personal conflict caused his absence. “We’re not going on holiday together,” he laughed. “But I don’t work for the team he’s the boss. There must be mutual respect, and there is.”

He also revealed that his time away was partly due to personal reasons. “My wife has been having health issues, and I want to be there for her,” Jos explained. “Plus, I don’t enjoy the Formula 1 world as much as I once did.”

His return coincides with a positive turn in Red Bull’s form, following Max’s recent victory at Imola. “Things are definitely looking up,” Jos said. “Monaco is always unpredictable, but I think Barcelona will really show where Red Bull stands.”

His comments highlight ongoing pressure within the team to stay ahead in an increasingly competitive F1 season.
