Lance Stroll Provides Health Update After Nerve Damage Concerns at Australian Grand Prix

Aston Martin Aramco Formula One Team driver Lance Stroll has reassured fans about his physical condition after a challenging appearance at the Australian Grand Prix held at Albert Park Circuit in Melbourne.

Ahead of the opening race of the 2026 Formula One season, there had been significant discussion about how the competitive order might change following major updates to the sport’s technical regulations. For Aston Martin, however, the weekend quickly turned into a difficult one due to ongoing issues with their new Honda power unit.

The team had already experienced setbacks earlier in the year, arriving late to a pre-season shakedown in Barcelona before encountering additional problems during testing in Bahrain.

Team principal Adrian Newey revealed that both Stroll and teammate Fernando Alonso were worried about the severe vibrations produced by the engine. According to Newey, the drivers feared that completing long stints during the race could potentially result in nerve damage because of the intense shaking inside the car.

Difficult Weekend for Aston Martin

As the race weekend progressed, it became increasingly clear that Aston Martin’s technical issues would limit their performance. Stroll was unable to participate in Saturday’s session, and the team ultimately used Sunday’s race as an opportunity to collect valuable data rather than focus on competing for results.

Newey had earlier explained that Stroll believed he might only be capable of completing around 15 laps due to the discomfort caused by the vibrations in the AMR26.

During the race, Alonso initially appeared to retire after slowly circulating the track for several laps. However, the Spaniard later rejoined the race to help the team gather additional data before eventually pulling out again.

Stroll adopted a similar strategy. After entering the pit lane following Alonso’s final retirement, the Canadian returned to the track late in the race, rejoining several laps behind the leading cars.

Despite the significant gap, Stroll managed to remain on track until the chequered flag, finishing the race well behind the rest of the field but still completing valuable laps for the team.

Stroll Confirms He Is Not Injured

Speaking after the race to Rachel Brookes from Sky Sports, Stroll admitted the race had been far from ideal for the team.

“It hasn’t been a good afternoon,” he said. “We finished many laps down, and we’ve had problems all weekend, including during the race. But at least we managed to complete some laps.”

Addressing the vibration concerns, Stroll confirmed that the issue is still present but insisted he has not suffered any physical harm.

“We still have vibration problems,” he explained. “But physically I’m fine. I can drive the car  the issue is mainly with the engine.”

Although Aston Martin endured a disappointing start to the season, the data collected during the race could prove valuable as the team works to resolve its technical issues ahead of the next rounds of the championship.
