Lando Norris and Charles Leclerc’s Tense Reaction to Verstappen’s Mexico GP Penalties
In a heated Mexico Grand Prix, Lando Norris and Charles Leclerc found themselves at odds with Max Verstappen’s aggressive driving, which ultimately led to a series of penalties for the Red Bull driver. Verstappen received two separate 10-second penalties for incidents involving Norris as the McLaren driver sought to overtake.
During the race, Verstappen first forced Norris off the track at Turn 4. Norris, who went on to finish second, had attempted a pass when Verstappen’s defensive move left him with no room, prompting the stewards to issue the first 10-second penalty. Later, at Turn 7, Norris rejoined the track after running onto the grass to avoid a collision, only to be pushed wide again by Verstappen.
In the cool-down room post-race, Norris and Leclerc kept their reactions subtle but telling. Norris let out a slight smile and chuckle as they reviewed the footage, exchanging a knowing look with Leclerc. Both refrained from comment, a stark contrast to Norris’s mid-race frustrations when he referred to Verstappen’s driving as “dangerous.” He voiced concerns over Verstappen’s repeated behavior, adding, “I will end up in a wall in a minute.”
After the race, Norris shared his perspective, suggesting the penalties were well-deserved and expressing frustration over Verstappen’s disregard for guidelines. Norris stated, “I did everything I’ve been told in terms of what the rules are, yet it just wasn’t to be. And, of course, he got some penalties for that.”
With Norris securing a commendable second-place finish and Verstappen dealing with time penalties, the incidents underscored the tensions that continue to simmer among the leading drivers in Formula 1.
