Leadership Questions Loom at Ferrari as Vasseur Faces…read more

Ferrari’s Formula 1 team is currently facing growing internal pressure, as team principal Frédéric Vasseur reportedly finds himself under increased scrutiny from the upper echelons of Ferrari management. This development follows a less-than-stellar start to the 2025 F1 season, which has failed to live up to high pre-season expectations. According to Corriere della Sera, Vasseur’s position is being carefully monitored as doubts begin to emerge regarding his ability to guide the team to championship contention.

Vasseur, who took over as Ferrari’s team principal in early 2023, came into the role with hopes of restoring Ferrari’s F1 legacy and competing for titles. Despite some early signs of improvement and flashes of competitive pace in 2024, the 2025 season has so far not produced the desired results. Ferrari had entered the season optimistic about their chances, backed by a seemingly strong car and a formidable driver lineup. However, inconsistencies in performance, strategic blunders, and stiff competition from rivals like Red Bull, Mercedes, and now McLaren have hampered their campaign.

Meanwhile, at the legendary 24 Hours of Le Mans, Ferrari’s endurance racing program continues to shine. Led by Antonello Coletta, Ferrari is fielding two 499P Hypercars in the event as they chase a third consecutive victory in the premier Hypercar class. Coletta has been instrumental in the recent success of Ferrari’s World Endurance Championship (WEC) efforts, reinforcing his status as a respected leader within the broader Ferrari racing organization.

Interestingly, Coletta’s name is now surfacing as a potential successor to Vasseur should the latter fail to turn Ferrari’s F1 season around. The Corriere della Sera report refers to Coletta as “the man who could replace” Vasseur, indicating that Ferrari’s top brass may already be considering a leadership change if results do not improve soon. While Coletta remains focused on Le Mans, the parallel narratives unfolding in endurance racing and Formula 1 are painting a picture of internal reevaluation at Ferrari.

As the endurance squad takes on the grueling 24-hour challenge at Circuit de la Sarthe, Vasseur will be thousands of miles away, leading Ferrari’s Formula 1 outfit during the Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal. The timing of these two high-profile events could be crucial. A strong result in Canada might help relieve some of the pressure on Vasseur, while another disappointing outing could hasten discussions about a possible change in leadership.

It’s worth noting that Ferrari’s recent performances have not been entirely without merit. The team has made noticeable progress since the lows of 2022, and their current drivers—Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz—have both demonstrated speed and resilience. Nonetheless, Ferrari’s storied F1 legacy demands victories and title challenges, not just occasional podiums and flashes of brilliance. With expectations sky-high, the patience of Ferrari executives appears to be wearing thin.

As both races unfold this weekend, one in France and the other in Canada, all eyes will be on the outcomes—and on the future of Frédéric Vasseur. Whether he can steer Ferrari back on course or finds himself replaced by a rising star like Antonello Coletta may soon be decided.
