Lewis Hamilton Slams ‘Uneducated’ Criticism Over Ferrari Form

Lewis Hamilton has hit back at criticism surrounding his early performances with Ferrari, dismissing some of the negative commentary as ill-informed and reactionary. The seven-time Formula 1 world champion emphasized that transitioning to a new team is always a process and that expectations should be managed realistically.

Speaking candidly, Hamilton pointed out how quick some observers are to judge without a full understanding of the situation.

“People just love to be negative at any opportunity, even with the smallest things, they’ll just be negative about it,” he said.

Acknowledging the scrutiny that comes with his move to Ferrari, Hamilton expressed disappointment over the remarks made by certain figures he had long respected. He admitted to catching glimpses of these opinions despite not actively following media reports.

“I see certain individuals – and again, I don’t read the news, but I see bits here and there – and I see people that I’ve admired for years just talking out of turn,” he noted.

“Clearly, some of them are just making uneducated guesses about what’s going on.”

The Challenge of Adapting to a New Team

Hamilton reiterated that switching teams in Formula 1 is far from straightforward. The differences in operational structures and car characteristics require time for a driver to adapt. He cited examples of other legendary drivers who faced similar challenges when they joined Ferrari.

“It’s not easy moving to a new team that works completely differently, with a completely different characteristic of car,” he explained.

“You don’t just jump in and it’s good. I mean, if you look at Sebastian Vettel and Fernando Alonso, they did a great job when they joined the team in their early phases, but to build long-term success with the team takes time.”

Hamilton emphasized that his primary goal is to work towards long-term success rather than expecting instant results. He described his approach as one of patience and steady progression.

“That’s what I’m trying to do. I’m not trying to jump-start it or get ahead of myself. I’m just taking my time to build with this great team.”

Encouraging Signs from the Chinese Grand Prix

Reflecting on the Chinese Grand Prix, Hamilton pointed to the sprint race as an indicator of Ferrari’s potential. While results haven’t been consistently strong, he believes that every outing brings valuable insights that will aid his future performances.

“There’s so much potential in this team, and for us to be at the second race already and have that experience, that’s encouraging,” Hamilton said.

Hamilton has historically performed well at the Shanghai circuit, and he acknowledged that his familiarity with the track contributed to his improved confidence. However, he also made it clear that his overall comfort in the Ferrari is improving with time.

“This is a track I’ve gone well at for many, many years, so you have to take that into account. But in general, I’ve been feeling really good in the car.”

As he continues to understand Ferrari’s SF-25 better, Hamilton is optimistic about his ability to extract more performance from the car in upcoming races. He explained that the lessons learned in China will be instrumental when tackling similar circuits.

“As I’m learning more about where the car likes to be set up for a track like this, when I get to another track like the last one, I think I have a better understanding of where to position it.”

Despite early criticism, Hamilton remains focused on his adaptation process and is confident that his experience and methodical approach will yield results in due time. As Ferrari aims to return to the top of the grid, Hamilton’s belief in the team’s potential remains unwavering.
