Lewis Hamilton Endorses Colapinto for Future F1 Success Amid 2025 Speculations
Williams’ recent decision to temporarily replace Logan Sargeant with Argentine Formula 2 driver Franco Colapinto for the remainder of the 2024 Formula 1 season has created waves in the paddock. The move, initially seen as a stopgap until Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz joins the team in 2025, has proven to be more impactful than anticipated, with Colapinto catching the eye of top teams like Red Bull.
Williams Team Principal James Vowles acknowledged Colapinto’s impressive debut, where the 21-year-old scored five points in just four races, outshining Sargeant’s earlier performances with the team. As part of the Williams Driver Academy, Colapinto has demonstrated a level of skill and composure that suggests he belongs on the Formula 1 grid for the long term. While Vowles is exploring options to loan Colapinto to another team for 2025, speculation about his future continues to build.
Colapinto’s performances have also sparked interest beyond Williams, with Red Bull Team Principal Christian Horner openly praising the young driver. Horner was even seen visiting the Williams motorhome during the São Paulo Grand Prix, further fueling rumors about a potential move in the future.
Adding to the chorus of support, seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton expressed his admiration for Colapinto’s performances. Hamilton encouraged the rookie to stay focused on delivering results and seizing every opportunity to secure a long-term seat in Formula 1.
“I think he’s earned his right to be here,” Hamilton stated. “There’s still a seat available, and while it’s not for him to decide, my advice would be to make sure that it is.”
Colapinto was also a strong contender for the final available seat at Sauber, but the Hinwil-based team opted for F2 champion Gabriel Bortoleto instead. Despite this, Hamilton believes Colapinto’s approach and commitment will keep him in contention for a top-tier opportunity.
“I’d be pushing on my side to make sure I was doing absolutely everything,” Hamilton added. “At the end of the day, he just needs to keep focusing on delivering results every weekend as he has been doing.”
As the 2024 season unfolds, Colapinto’s performances could significantly influence his future in Formula 1. With drivers and team principals alike acknowledging his potential, the young Argentine may well secure a spot on the grid for 2025 and beyond. Whether with Williams, Red Bull, or another team, Colapinto’s rise is one to watch.
