Major Lewis Hamilton to Ferrari Statement Made With ‘Huge Threat’ Warning
Juan Pablo Montoya, former F1 driver, believes that Lewis Hamilton is poised for a major resurgence and could become a formidable title contender when he joins Ferrari. Montoya predicts that Hamilton’s upcoming move from Mercedes to Ferrari for the 2025 season will reignite the seven-time World Champion’s competitive edge, positioning him as a serious threat in the battle for future championships.
Hamilton, who has spent over a decade at Mercedes, secured six of his seven titles with the team, making him one of the most successful drivers in Formula 1 history. However, in recent years, Mercedes’ performance has dipped, and Hamilton’s hopes of winning an elusive eighth World Championship have faltered. As his time with Mercedes draws to a close, Hamilton’s much-anticipated transfer to Ferrari represents a fresh start and an opportunity to reclaim his place at the top of the sport.
Montoya, speaking to Gambling Zone, expressed confidence that Hamilton’s move to Ferrari will bring back the “Lewis of old.” The Colombian racing veteran expects Hamilton to return with a renewed sense of determination, eager to prove his doubters wrong. Montoya believes that with the right car and support, Hamilton can pose a “huge threat” for the F1 title once again.
“He’s going to be out with a revenge to prove everybody wrong and show everybody they were wrong about him,” Montoya said. “I think if everything lines up, Lewis can be a huge threat for a championship.”
Ferrari, a team that has struggled to recapture its former glory, is banking on Hamilton to help end its long title drought. The Italian team last won a Constructors’ Championship in 2008, and their last Drivers’ Champion was Kimi Raikkonen in 2007. With Hamilton’s wealth of experience and proven track record, Ferrari hopes to finally break their dry spell and return to championship-winning form.
However, Montoya emphasized that for Hamilton to succeed at Ferrari, the team needs to build the car around him and his preferences. Hamilton’s driving style and input must be central to the development of the car if Ferrari wants to make the most of his talents. Montoya highlighted this as a crucial factor for the team to consider if they are serious about competing for titles.
“If Ferrari really wants to succeed, they really need to listen to what Lewis needs and build a car around him that Lewis wants,” Montoya explained.
This partnership with Ferrari comes at a pivotal moment for the Scuderia. Charles Leclerc, Ferrari’s current lead driver and a graduate of the Ferrari Driver Academy, will be Hamilton’s teammate for the 2025 season. Leclerc, who has been with Ferrari since 2019, is hopeful that Ferrari is on the cusp of becoming a title contender. He has expressed optimism that Ferrari’s upcoming car development, along with Hamilton’s arrival, could help them challenge for championships starting as early as 2025.
Leclerc recently told The Race and ESPN that he believes Ferrari’s title chances will improve significantly over the next few years, particularly with new chassis and power unit regulations coming into effect in 2026. “Yes, it is,” Leclerc said when asked if Ferrari can realistically compete for the title in 2025. “Obviously it is a constant process that keeps evolving, and the goal is to always make it better.”
Leclerc explained that while all teams are striving to improve, Ferrari is confident they will make meaningful strides forward in 2025 and beyond. “I would say that ’25 will be good, ’26 will be better, and ’27 will be even better as we optimize everything,” Leclerc said.
Hamilton’s move to Ferrari also spells change for the team’s current lineup. Carlos Sainz, who has been Leclerc’s teammate at Ferrari since 2021, will leave the team at the end of the 2024 season. Sainz has reportedly agreed to a multi-year deal with Williams, making way for Hamilton’s arrival.
As Hamilton prepares to embark on the next chapter of his storied career, all eyes will be on Ferrari to see if they can provide the British driver with the machinery and support he needs to challenge for the title once again. For now, both Hamilton and Ferrari fans alike are eagerly anticipating what could be a thrilling new era in Formula 1.
