Manchester United on red alert as B… confirm… transfer decision
Benfica president Rui Costa has confirmed that Joao Neves will leave the club this summer.
The 19-year-old midfielder, who had a standout season with Benfica, has drawn interest from Manchester United.
However, United must sell a midfielder before making any purchases.
Their primary target is Manuel Ugarte, with Adrien Rabiot and Martin Zubimendi as alternatives. Neves is off the market as Benfica accepted a £60 million deal to sell him to Paris Saint-Germain.
“It’s all done,” Costa told reporters on Friday. “It’s sad to see Joao go, as he’s a top player and person, but we couldn’t turn down a €70 million offer. We can’t say no to that.”
Previously, reports suggested Neves would not leave for less than his £101 million release clause, but Costa denied this two weeks ago.
“I never said Joao Neves would only leave for his €120 million release clause; those claims are false,” Costa stated.
Costa added, “There is an offer on the table, and discussions are ongoing. For now, Joao remains a Benfica player.
I understand fans want clarity, but please allow us to handle the negotiations for the best outcome for Benfica.”
