Just In: Mick Schumacher Handed F1 Return Boost as Cadillac S…read more

Mick Schumacher’s hopes of returning to Formula 1 have received a significant boost, with strong backing from four-time world champion Sebastian Vettel and growing links to the incoming Cadillac F1 team.
The 26-year-old German, son of legendary seven-time champion Michael Schumacher, is reportedly in the running for a seat with Cadillac, the American outfit set to join the Formula 1 grid in 2026. Schumacher’s potential comeback gained traction during the Miami Grand Prix weekend, where he was spotted at Cadillac’s brand launch and in conversation with the team’s CEO, Dan Towriss.
Having spent 2023 as a reserve driver for Mercedes before being released, Schumacher has since shifted his focus to the World Endurance Championship with Alpine. His performances have been solid, helping the #36 car to third-place finishes in recent races at Imola and Spa, further underlining his readiness for another shot in F1.
Schumacher’s F1 career initially stalled after two challenging seasons with Haas in 2021 and 2022. However, Vettel longtime friend and Nations Cup teammate believes those years did not reflect Schumacher’s true potential.
“I wish him well,” Vettel told RTL/ntv and sport.de. “We’re in contact, of course. I saw how his time in Formula 1 ended. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that he gets another chance because I believe he can absolutely keep up with the others.”
Vettel also acknowledged the tough environment Schumacher faced at Haas, saying, “It was difficult to realise his dream there. He didn’t feel very comfortable.” But he believes that experience, along with his time at Mercedes and now Alpine, has transformed the young driver.
“He is much more mature now,” Vettel added. “And I think he is doing a very good job at Alpine in the World Endurance Championship. It would be nice if he gets a second chance at Cadillac.”
With a growing résumé, public support from one of the sport’s greats, and a new team looking for talent, Schumacher’s road back to Formula 1 may be opening up once more.
