Red Bull Racing has officially announced that they will part ways with Sergio Perez after four seasons with the team. While Max Verstappen continued his dominant form and secured his fourth world championship, Red Bull’s performance in the constructors’ standings fell short, finishing third—77 points behind McLaren, the eventual champions.
A key factor in Red Bull’s struggles in the constructors’ battle was the underperformance of their second driver, Perez. Since joining the team in 2021, the Mexican driver had moments of brilliance but struggled significantly throughout the 2024 season. Perez failed to secure a podium finish after the Chinese Grand Prix in April and was unable to break into the top five after the Miami Grand Prix in May. By the end of the 2024 season, Perez was a staggering 285 points behind Verstappen in the championship standings. Although the team enjoyed success with Verstappen, Perez’s lack of consistency became a key factor in their decision to replace him.
