Red Bull make DRAMATIC decision on 2025 F1 seat
Red Bull has reportedly made a decision regarding one of their Formula 1 seats for the 2025 season, amidst growing speculation about the team’s future lineup.
Sergio Perez, who has faced significant criticism for his performance in 2024, is widely expected to lose his seat at the end of the year.
Perez’s struggles throughout the season have been a major talking point, as he has failed to secure a podium finish since the Chinese Grand Prix.
His repeated Q1 eliminations and low points finishes have contributed to Red Bull slipping to third in the constructors’ championship, despite Max Verstappen clinching the drivers’ title.
If Perez is dropped, Liam Lawson has emerged as the frontrunner to replace him.
The Kiwi stepped in for Daniel Ricciardo after the Singapore Grand Prix and has shown greater consistency than Ricciardo, although he has not outperformed his AlphaTauri teammate Yuki Tsunoda.
Meanwhile, Williams driver Franco Colapinto was previously linked to the Red Bull seat but appears to be out of contention following a series of high-profile crashes.
His 50G impact during Las Vegas Grand Prix qualifying reportedly ended his chances with Red Bull.
Team advisor Helmut Marko downplayed Colapinto’s candidacy, stating he was “not very high on the list” of potential replacements for Perez.
Colapinto has faced a challenging period, with crashes at the last three races, including in the wet conditions at Interlagos and a collision with Esteban Ocon on the opening lap in Qatar.
Despite earlier praise for his rapid progress at Williams, these incidents have seemingly made him a risky choice for Red Bull.
Though Colapinto’s prospects at Red Bull seem slim, he could still secure the AlphaTauri seat if Lawson is promoted to Red Bull for 2025.
For now, Red Bull’s decision on Perez and his potential replacement remains one of the most talked-about topics as the 2024 season concludes.
