Sao Paulo Grand Prix Qualifying Postponed to Sunday Due to Heavy Rain

Qualifying for the Sao Paulo GrandPrix has been rescheduled for Sunday morning after torrential rain and lightning struck the Autodromo Jose Carlos Pace on Saturday. Originally planned for 3 p.m. local time, the session was postponed when thunderstorms and heavy rain created large pools of water on the track, making it unsafe for the drivers.

The rain persisted beyond the scheduled start time, with weather forecasts indicating little chance of improvement. As a result, the FIA made the decision to delay the session until Sunday, with the exact start time yet to be confirmed. The qualifying round will now take place on the morning of the Grand Prix, as officials work to minimize disruption to the weekend schedule.

In a statement, the FIA explained: “The decision was taken due to the lack of visibility caused by the level of rain we have experienced in the past few hours. There is a lot of standing water on parts of the circuit, which renders conditions unsafe.”

The statement added that the safety of all involved, including drivers, team members, officials, volunteers, and spectators, remains the highest priority, even though they acknowledge fans’ eagerness to see on-track action.

With the weather forecast set to improve by Sunday, teams and drivers now prepare to adapt to a condensed race day schedule. The delayed qualifying will add to the intensity of an already competitive Grand Prix weekend.
