Max Verstappen, a four-time Formula 1 world champion, has announced that he is considering a departure from Red Bull ahead of the 2025 season. The Dutch driver clinched his fourth consecutive title in 2024, maintaining his dominance in the sport despite facing a challenging period early in the season. Verstappen’s form dipped significantly at one point, enduring a stretch of 10 races without a win. However, he still managed to fend off competition from McLaren’s Lando Norris to secure the championship.
While Verstappen’s individual success was a highlight of the 2024 season, it was a frustrating year for Red Bull as a team. Verstappen’s struggles and his teammate Sergio Perez’s poor performances allowed McLaren and Ferrari to capitalize on Red Bull’s issues. McLaren, in particular, took advantage of these weaknesses, eventually securing their first title since 1998.
Verstappen will be joined by a new teammate in 2025, as Liam Lawson replaces Perez following the Mexican driver’s dismissal last month. Verstappen, though currently enjoying some time away from the F1 circuit, has expressed his excitement about returning to the track. He’s particularly eager to see Red Bull’s new car and livery for the upcoming season.
In a recent appearance on the Talking Bull Podcast, Verstappen spoke about his anticipation of seeing the team’s new car when he returns to the factory. He revealed that he is excited about the livery, hoping it will feature a fresh design. “I hope it’s a bit different,” he said, explaining that he enjoys the current shiny color on the cars. Verstappen reflected on the past dominance of matte-blue cars, adding, “We’ve had so many matte-blue cars, but I think sometimes it’s just nice to spice it up a little bit.”
In a historical first, all 10 F1 teams will unveil their 2025 liveries together in a special event at the O2 Arena in London on February 18. While fans eagerly await the reveal, Verstappen joked that he wasn’t particularly excited about it. In fact, he humorously expressed his hope that he would feel sick that week, possibly to avoid the event. Despite his playful comments, the event will mark a significant moment as all teams showcase their new designs simultaneously.
As Verstappen prepares for the new season, his comments have led to speculation about his future with Red Bull beyond 2025, raising questions about what could come next for the star driver.
