Verstappen tipped for shock Red Bull EXIT
Max Verstappen has been tipped to leave Red Bull Racing within the next few years, despite his continued success with the team.
The Dutch driver has dominated Formula 1 in recent years, winning four consecutive world championships, including his latest in 2024.
However, his path to the title this season was more challenging, as he went winless between June and November, allowing McLaren’s Lando Norris to mount a strong title challenge.
Red Bull’s struggles in 2024 extended beyond Verstappen’s performance.
The team faced a significant pace deficit to rivals, finishing third in the constructors’ championship.
This made Verstappen the first driver since 1983 to win the drivers’ title while their team ranked third in the standings.
Speculation about Verstappen’s future has intensified amid his frustrations with Red Bull and Formula 1’s governing body.
Reports suggest he might consider leaving the team before the 2026 regulations overhaul, especially if Red Bull fails to remain competitive.
Although Verstappen is under contract until 2028, it’s believed there is a clause allowing him to exit if performance expectations aren’t met.
Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff has reportedly shown interest in signing Verstappen should he become available.
Former F1 driver Juan Pablo Montoya recently weighed in on the situation, predicting that Verstappen may look to switch teams before retiring from the sport entirely.
Montoya suggested Verstappen’s loyalty to Red Bull could waver if the team’s performance declines, particularly with the uncertainty surrounding Red Bull’s powertrain project for 2026.
“If Red Bull isn’t competitive, Max won’t be content running in tenth place,” Montoya stated.
He added that Verstappen would likely jump at the opportunity to join a team like Mercedes if their offer promised better prospects.
While Verstappen has publicly dismissed such speculation, Montoya believes private discussions about a potential move are already happening, as Verstappen evaluates his options for maintaining his competitive edge in Formula 1.
