The FIA has officially released the 2025 Formula 1 entry list, confirming the driver lineups and team arrangements for the upcoming season. Despite ongoing speculation regarding Sergio Perez’s future at Red Bull, the entry list still features the Mexican driver as Max Verstappen’s team-mate for 2025. However, this is subject to change, as the list is provisional and could be updated before the season opener at the Australian Grand Prix in March 2025.
Max Verstappen, who recently secured his fourth consecutive Formula 1 championship at the Las Vegas Grand Prix, is expected to continue with Red Bull. However, the team faced setbacks in the Constructors’ Championship, with Perez’s continued poor performance contributing to Red Bull’s drop to third place in the standings. Verstappen’s dominance on track has only highlighted Perez’s struggles, making it increasingly likely that the Mexican driver could be dropped from the team ahead of the 2025 season.
Perez’s fate became even more uncertain after a disappointing result at the season finale in Abu Dhabi, where he failed to finish the race. Red Bull team principal Christian Horner had already mentioned that discussions regarding Perez’s future would take place after the season’s conclusion, further fueling rumors that a change could be on the horizon. Despite this, the FIA’s 2025 entry list still includes Perez as Verstappen’s partner at Red Bull, reflecting his current contract, which runs until 2026.
It is important to note that the FIA entry list is provisional and compiled based on current contracts. This explains why Perez is still listed as Verstappen’s team-mate, even though his position remains uncertain. The list also reflects the current situation with the junior team, AlphaTauri, where Yuki Tsunoda is confirmed for 2025, but his team-mate remains unnamed. Instead, the entry list for AlphaTauri simply states “TBC” (to be confirmed), indicating that the second seat is still up for grabs.
There has been growing speculation that Liam Lawson, Tsunoda’s team-mate at AlphaTauri in 2024, could replace Perez and join Verstappen at Red Bull in 2025. Lawson’s impressive performances during his time with the junior team have raised his profile, making him a strong candidate to step up to the main team. The FIA’s entry list not only reflects the current driver contracts but could also be a signal of changes yet to be officially announced.
With Perez’s future uncertain and Red Bull’s driver lineup still open to change, the 2025 Formula 1 season is shaping up to be full of surprises. Fans will have to wait until closer to the season’s start to know for sure who will be standing alongside Verstappen at the front of the Red Bull garage.
