HONDA RELEASES STRONG RESPONSE AFTER ASTON MARTIN SUFFER…READ MORE

Honda Formula 1 chief Shintaro Orihara has delivered a firm and passionate statement following a disastrous weekend for Aston Martin at the opening round of the 2026 Formula 1 season in Melbourne. What was expected to be a competitive start to the campaign quickly turned into one of the most shocking technical setbacks seen in recent years.
Aston Martin, the team led by legendary designer Adrian Newey, arrived at the Albert Park Circuit with high hopes and plenty of attention from fans and analysts. With the new AMR26 car and Honda power unit combination, many believed the team could challenge near the front of the grid. However, the race weekend took a dramatic and unexpected turn.
Both Aston Martin drivers, Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll, were unable to complete the race after a serious technical issue emerged within the car’s power system. Engineers discovered that dangerous vibrations coming from the battery system were transferring through the chassis, creating an alarming situation for both drivers.
The problem was not just about performance — it raised major safety concerns.
According to team engineers, the vibrations were strong enough to potentially cause long-term nerve damage to the drivers if they continued running the car for a full race distance. With the Australian Grand Prix scheduled for 58 laps, the team had no choice but to limit the running of both cars to protect Alonso and Stroll.
As a result, Aston Martin suffered a double DNF (Did Not Finish), something that rarely happens due to a safety-related mechanical issue of this nature.
Following the race weekend, Honda’s F1 project leader Shintaro Orihara addressed the situation publicly. In a strong and determined statement, he acknowledged the seriousness of the problem while assuring fans that Honda is already working urgently with Aston Martin engineers to identify the exact cause.
Orihara emphasized that driver safety remains the highest priority, explaining that no team would risk the health of its drivers for the sake of finishing a race.
He admitted that the Melbourne weekend was far from the start the partnership hoped for, especially after months of development and preparation leading into the 2026 season. However, he also stressed that setbacks like this are part of Formula One’s relentless technological challenge.
The Honda chief confirmed that a full technical investigation is already underway, focusing specifically on the battery structure, vibration dampening systems, and the integration of the power unit within the AMR26 chassis.
Orihara reassured fans that Honda has some of the most experienced engineers in motorsport, and they are confident a solution will be implemented quickly before the next race.
The incident came as a huge disappointment for Aston Martin supporters, particularly because expectations were extremely high after the team secured the services of Adrian Newey, widely regarded as one of the greatest Formula 1 car designers in history.
Many analysts had predicted that the AMR26 could become one of the most innovative cars on the grid, especially under the new technical regulations introduced for 2026. Instead, the Melbourne weekend highlighted how even the most advanced engineering projects can encounter unexpected problems.
Despite the setback, both Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll remained supportive of the team. Alonso reportedly praised the decision to prioritize safety, stating that it was the correct call under such unusual circumstances.
With the championship just beginning, Aston Martin and Honda now face an urgent race against time to resolve the issue before the next Grand Prix.
Formula One history has shown that early-season setbacks do not always determine the final outcome of a championship. For Aston Martin, the challenge now is to turn this dramatic opening weekend into motivation for a stronger comeback.
One thing is certain: all eyes will be on Aston Martin and Honda when the lights go out at the next race, as fans wait to see whether the team can recover from one of the most surprising technical failures of the 2026 season. 🏁🔥
