In a dramatic shake-up within the Alpine F1 team, rising star Jack Doohan has been dropped from his reserve driver duties, making way for Argentine sensation Franco Colapinto to step in for a five-race stint.

The decision, confirmed by team sources late Monday, comes amid growing speculation about Alpine’s long-term driver development strategy. Colapinto, currently competing in Formula 2 with MP Motorsport, will take over Doohan’s reserve driver role at selected Grand Prix events, beginning with the upcoming race in Imola.

Alpine has not publicly disclosed the reasons behind the sudden switch, but insiders cite performance concerns and a desire to test new talent as key factors. The move marks a significant opportunity for Colapinto, whose strong F2 performances and marketability in South America have caught the attention of the team’s upper management.

Doohan, son of motorcycle racing legend Mick Doohan, had been considered a potential future race driver for Alpine. However, this latest development casts doubt on his trajectory within the Renault-backed outfit.

Alpine is expected to release an official statement later this week.
