Lewis Hamilton has addressed growing criticism surrounding his early performances with Ferrari, urging patience and insisting that success will come in time. The seven-time Formula One world champion has yet to step onto the podium since making his high-profile move to the Scuderia for the 2025 season, prompting some to question whether the partnership is working out as expected.
Hamilton, who left Mercedes after over a decade with the team, has had a challenging introduction to life in red. In his first seven races for Ferrari, he has struggled to match the pace of front-runners like Red Bull and McLaren, and has often found himself battling in the midfield. Despite flashes of competitiveness, the Briton has not yet secured a top-three finish. His best result so far came at the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix in Imola, where he finished in a solid fourth place.
However, speaking after the race, Hamilton was quick to push back against the growing wave of criticism. He made it clear that while he understands the high expectations surrounding his arrival at Ferrari, people need to keep in mind the reality of the sport and the time it takes to build a winning formula.
“I knew coming into this team it wouldn’t be an overnight transformation,” Hamilton said. “This is a process, and I’m here for the long haul. The people at Ferrari are incredibly passionate and talented, and I believe in what we’re building here.”
The British driver emphasized that his decision to join Ferrari was driven not just by the pursuit of more victories, but by the challenge of helping the iconic team return to championship-winning form. Ferrari last won a constructors’ title in 2008, and their drivers’ title drought stretches back to 2007. Hamilton has expressed his desire to contribute meaningfully to turning that around.
“It’s easy for people to sit on the sidelines and judge based on a few races,” Hamilton continued. “But inside the team, we’re making real progress. Every weekend, we’re learning more, improving the car, and strengthening our teamwork. The results might not show it yet, but we’re on the right path.”
Hamilton’s performances have been respectable considering the current state of Ferrari’s competitiveness. Teammate Charles Leclerc has also faced similar struggles, with podiums proving elusive amid stiff competition from Red Bull’s Max Verstappen and McLaren’s Lando Norris. Ferrari’s SF-25 car has shown potential but has lacked the consistent pace needed to challenge for wins.
Despite the lack of early success, Hamilton has remained composed and focused. He highlighted that his transition to Ferrari was always expected to involve a period of adjustment—not just for him, but for the entire team adapting to his driving style and feedback.
“Any big move in this sport comes with challenges,” Hamilton said. “We’re building something special here. I’ve seen the determination in this team, and I’m confident that our time will come.”
Hamilton also took a moment to thank the Tifosi—the passionate Ferrari fanbase—for their continued support, noting that their belief fuels his drive even in difficult moments.
“I feel incredibly supported by the fans,” he said. “They’ve been amazing from day one, and I want to reward that loyalty with performances they can be proud of. That’s my focus.”
As the season progresses, Hamilton remains optimistic that better results are on the horizon. With improvements expected in upcoming races and a renewed sense of unity within the team, the Briton is not letting early setbacks define his Ferrari journey.
“I’ve been through ups and downs before,” Hamilton concluded. “This is just the beginning of a new chapter. I’m more motivated than ever to bring success to this team.”
