Red Bull driver Max Verstappen gave a brutal reply to McLaren CEO Zak Brown after the latter criticized him for his racing tactics during the 2024 season. The Dutch driver was able to win his fourth successive world championship in the recently concluded season after he was challenged by McLaren driver Lando Norris.

In his defense for the title, Verstappen and Norris fought hard on track with some controversial moments occurring during the races in Austin and Mexico

The Dutchman got the most flak for his driving in the Mexican GP where he raced too aggressively and pushed Norris out of the track in his defense. Whilst commenting on the Red Bull driver’s driving, McLaren CEO told ViaPlay:

“He’s such an awesome racing driver that I just don’t think he needs to drive like that. Just drive like the World Champion you are. It was unnecessary, puts everybody at risk and it’s not clean racing.”

In his documentary with the same publication at the end of the year, Verstappen gave a brutal reply to the American and said:

“I always find that really funny, coming from someone that failed himself in racing.”

The 27-year-old started the year strong, as he won seven out of the first 10 races and built quite a gap to the chasing pack. However, a mid-season from the Red Bull RB20 and McLaren’s resurgence saw the reigning world champion fail to win any races for the next 10 races.

However, he was able to hold off the challenge from Lando Norris and won the championship by 63 points at the end of the year.

Max Verstappen comments on his racing tactics

“I will always get the maximum out of it. Sometimes you have to cross a line and I’ll do that. I will do everything to get the maximum result out of it for a championship. And, of course, yes, sometimes you have to be on the limit, over the limit. You have to calculate all that, and not everyone understands that. Not everyone has that mentality.”

Max Verstappen ultimately finished the 2024 campaign with 437 points, which included nine race wins and 14 podiums in 24 races and six Sprints. He became only the fifth driver in F1 history to win four consecutive titles and sixth overall.

In 2025, the Red Bull driver has an opportunity to become part of an even more exclusive list as he could be only the second driver after Michael Schumacher to win five titles in a row and only the fourth to do it overall.

Stay tuned for more updates…….
