Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula 1 Team has officially confirmed the return of driver Doriane Pin to the F1 Academy for the 2025 season. The 20-year-old French driver, who impressed during her debut campaign in 2024, will continue with the Mercedes-AMG F1 Academy entry, partnering with PREMA Racing, who will once again operate the team’s car in the series.
The announcement comes after an eventful 2024 season, where Mercedes faced challenges but also celebrated several significant accomplishments. The team secured four Grand Prix victories, including a spectacular home win at Silverstone for Lewis Hamilton, proving that Mercedes remains a competitive force in F1. The season also highlighted the emergence of talented young drivers, such as Kimi Antonelli, who was promoted to the F1 grid for 2025. Another standout was Doriane Pin, who made waves in the F1 Academy by finishing second in the championship standings, just behind Britain’s Abbi Pulling.
Pin’s performance in the 2024 F1 Academy season was a remarkable achievement, especially given it was her first year competing in single-seater racing. Transitioning from GT and endurance racing to single-seaters can be a steep learning curve, but Pin handled the switch impressively, showcasing both her adaptability and raw talent. Finishing as the vice-champion in her rookie season was a testament to her skill and determination.
Looking ahead to 2025, Pin is eager to build on her success and challenge for the F1 Academy title. “I am excited to continue this journey together with the Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Team and Iron Dames next year,” Pin said in a statement. “After becoming vice-champion in F1 Academy in my maiden season, I am extremely motivated to go for the driver’s title in 2025. I will be pushing myself hard to improve over the winter and hopefully enjoy an even stronger season next year.”
Gwen Lagrue, Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Team’s driver development advisor, praised Pin’s rapid progression throughout the season. “Doriane has enjoyed a very successful first season in single-seaters. Making the switch from GT and endurance cars is never easy, as both the driving style and skill set required are different. She has handled that change well, achieving success in several championships and competing strongly in F1 Academy,” Lagrue noted. “Finishing second overall in her first season in the category is a superb achievement. Considering the progress she has made this year and the experience she has now gained, we are confident that Doriane can fight for the F1 Academy title in 2025. We, along with Iron Dames, are looking forward to supporting her as she does so and anticipating a successful year ahead.”
The F1 Academy, an all-female series designed to support the development of female drivers, will continue to be a key part of the F1 ecosystem in 2025. The series will feature seven rounds in key global locations, including China, Saudi Arabia, Miami, Canada, the Netherlands, Singapore, and Las Vegas. These races will provide a platform for young drivers like Pin to showcase their talent and gain valuable experience as they aspire to one day compete at the highest level in Formula 1.
Mercedes’ commitment to supporting female talent through the F1 Academy is evident in their continued investment in Pin’s development. The 2025 season will be crucial for Pin as she looks to build on her successful rookie year and challenge for the championship. With strong backing from Mercedes and Iron Dames, as well as the experience gained in 2024, Pin will be a driver to watch in the upcoming F1 Academy season.
As the 2025 season approaches, the Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Team remains optimistic about Pin’s potential and her continued development as a top driver in the F1 Academy. With a focus on hard work, improvement, and a desire for success, Doriane Pin is set for an exciting year ahead in her pursuit of the championship title.
