Norris drops McLaren BOMBSHELL as….read more

Lando Norris has revealed a stunning bombshell about his Formula 1 career, admitting that he had previously received offers from other teams to leave McLaren in pursuit of race wins earlier in his career. The British driver, who had long been linked with a move to top-tier teams, stated that he turned down these opportunities in favor of staying loyal to the Woking-based outfit, where he had begun his Formula 1 journey.

Heading into the 2024 season, Norris had yet to secure a win in F1, but by 2025, he had turned his fortunes around dramatically. The 25-year-old not only won four Grand Prix races, but also achieved 26 podium finishes and led McLaren to their first Constructors’ Championship since 1998. This success marked a significant shift for the team, which had been battling to reclaim its former glory in recent years.

McLaren had been Red Bull’s most formidable challenger in the 2024 season, with Norris and teammate Oscar Piastri consistently performing well and pushing the team closer to the front. The final race of the season, held in Abu Dhabi, proved to be a thrilling climax to the campaign. Heading into the race, both McLaren and Ferrari were still in contention for the Constructors’ title, while Red Bull was out of the picture due to poor performances from Sergio Perez throughout the year. Despite Piastri’s early crash and the Ferrari drivers finishing on the podium, Norris’ fourth career victory in the season finale was enough to secure McLaren the prestigious title.

Looking back on his journey, Norris explained that his decision to stay with McLaren, despite temptations from other teams, had been a significant and defining one. Reflecting on his career, he revealed that several other teams had approached him in the past, offering him the chance to join their ranks and potentially secure wins much earlier. However, Norris stressed that his desire to stay with McLaren and help the team return to the top was always stronger than the lure of quick success with another team.

In a candid interview, Norris shared his feelings of pride and satisfaction with his decision. He emphasized that staying loyal to McLaren, despite the team’s struggles in earlier years, was something that gave him immense satisfaction now that the team had achieved success. “The thing I’ll be proudest and most happy about is the fact I’m still here,” Norris said. “The fact I’m still in papaya, because I believed in the team for many years.”

The reference to McLaren’s iconic “papaya” color, which has been a trademark of the team for many years, was a nod to his deep connection with the team. Norris admitted that he had opportunities to join other teams that were more competitive at the time, but he always felt a strong sense of loyalty to the team that had given him his Formula 1 debut. “I had opportunities to not be in papaya and to maybe go on and win races at an earlier stage in my career and those kind of things,” he explained. “But I believed and I wanted to simply do it with McLaren. I wanted to do it with the guys who gave me my opportunity in Formula 1.”

Norris’ unwavering commitment to McLaren has paid off, as his patience and belief in the team have now borne fruit. He acknowledged that, while McLaren had not been at the top of the grid in recent years, he always had faith that the team would return to its former glory. He also reflected on the fact that McLaren’s success in securing the Constructors’ Championship was achieved earlier than expected, even though the team had initially targeted the following season for a breakthrough.

“The fact we’re doing it this year is an even bigger achievement,” Norris said, clearly overjoyed by the outcome of the 2024 season. For Norris, the triumph was not just about the victories or the titles, but about the journey he had shared with McLaren, proving that loyalty, hard work, and belief in a team can ultimately lead to success.

In a sport where driver transfers and team changes are commonplace, Norris’ decision to stick with McLaren, even in times of uncertainty, has solidified his legacy as one of the most dedicated and loyal figures in Formula 1. With his success in 2024, the future looks incredibly bright for both Norris and McLaren as they look to build on their newfound momentum in the coming seasons.
