Official verdict on Perez Red Bull move announce….read more

Red Bull driver Sergio Perez has received a much-needed boost amid ongoing speculation about his future with the team, following a challenging 2024 Formula 1 season. Despite extending his contract with Red Bull for the upcoming season, Perez’s form has been under intense scrutiny after a series of disappointing performances. His struggles, which have included multiple early exits in qualifying sessions (Q1) and an overall lack of points, have contributed to Red Bull finishing third in the Constructors’ Championship.

The Mexican driver, who had a promising start to the season with a few podium finishes, has seen his performance dramatically decline as the year has progressed. By the end of the 2024 season, Perez was trailing teammate and reigning world champion Max Verstappen by a massive 285 points, highlighting the gap in form between the two drivers.

This decline in performance has sparked fresh concerns about Perez’s future with Red Bull, despite the fact that he still has a contract for the 2025 season. In light of these performances, there has been speculation about whether the team would seek a replacement for Perez, particularly given the dominant form of Verstappen and Red Bull’s continued success. Red Bull team principal Christian Horner and motorsport advisor Helmut Marko have both hinted that a decision on Perez’s future would be made after the season finale in Abu Dhabi. However, as of yet, no official announcement regarding his position for the 2025 season has been made.

While questions about his future continue to swirl, Perez has been given a timely confidence boost. At the FIA’s annual awards ceremony in Rwanda, which marks the official end of the F1 season, Perez received an important recognition for his performance during the Brazilian Grand Prix sprint race. He was awarded the prestigious “Action of the Year” award for his impressive overtake, which took place as he moved up the field during the race.

In that thrilling moment, Perez executed a stunning move to overtake both Carlos Sainz and Fernando Alonso on the inside, securing third place in the sprint race. The overtake was widely praised for its audacity and precision, and it received 60% of the vote in a fan poll, beating out other nominees such as Oscar Piastri and Alex Albon. Perez expressed his gratitude for the award, posting on social media: “That was really an exciting race! Thanks to all for voting!”

The award for “Action of the Year” is one of the highlights of the FIA Prize-Giving Gala, where F1’s drivers, teams, and other motorsport stars are celebrated for their achievements throughout the season. Perez’s victory in this category was a welcome recognition for the Mexican driver after a tough season, as it showcased his skill and ability to perform under pressure, even during a season where many of his results fell short of expectations.

Although Perez’s future with Red Bull remains uncertain, his recent award offers a reminder of his talent and his ability to execute moments of brilliance, even if his overall season did not meet the team’s usual high standards. The “Action of the Year” accolade may serve as an important morale boost for Perez as he prepares for the 2025 season, hoping to rediscover the form that saw him secure multiple podium finishes and solidify his place in the sport’s top ranks in previous seasons.

Looking ahead, the decision on Perez’s Red Bull future will likely depend on several factors, including his performance in the remaining races and any potential improvements in his consistency. However, with the FIA award now in his collection, Perez will be hoping that his drive and talent continue to shine through, securing his place in Formula 1 for years to come.
