Ricciardo named in STUNNING…read more

Daniel Ricciardo has recently received a major endorsement from Max Verstappen in what many are calling a surprising Red Bull partnership decision. This boost comes after Ricciardo’s challenging 2024 season, where his performance in Formula 1 took a notable downturn. The Australian driver’s year ended on a particularly sour note, finishing in 18th place and dead last among the remaining competitors at the Singapore Grand Prix. Throughout the season, Ricciardo struggled to match his teammate, Yuki Tsunoda, who outpaced him consistently and earned the bulk of the points for their team, VCARB. This underperformance fueled rumors of Ricciardo’s replacement, which ultimately became a reality after the Singapore race.

Ricciardo’s time with VCARB officially ended when Red Bull-bound Liam Lawson was named as his replacement. Despite the challenges, Ricciardo had returned to the Red Bull family in 2023 with the goal of securing a seat with the top team. The reasoning behind his ambition was clear: Sergio Perez, who had been underperforming, seemed like a candidate for replacement. However, while Perez’s struggles did persist throughout 2024, Ricciardo’s performance did not live up to expectations. He failed to demonstrate the same competitive edge that had once made him a leading driver, further casting doubt on whether he could fill Perez’s spot.

Despite this, Ricciardo has received an unexpected endorsement from his former teammate Max Verstappen. In a recent interview with Blick, Verstappen, who has driven alongside a variety of teammates during his time at Red Bull, including Pierre Gasly, Alex Albon, and Perez, praised Ricciardo as the best of all his partners. Verstappen explained that he had learned the most from Ricciardo during their time as teammates from 2016 to 2018, a period when both drivers were often closely matched in terms of performance.

Verstappen reflected on the lessons he absorbed from Ricciardo, revealing that the Australian’s approach to racing had a significant impact on his own career. Verstappen admitted that he was able to learn a great deal from Ricciardo’s experience and skill, which helped him refine his own racing techniques. According to Verstappen, their battles on track were highly competitive and provided valuable insights into the nuances of Formula 1 racing. Verstappen’s comments stand in stark contrast to his other teammates, whom he has consistently outpaced over the years.

During their shared time at Red Bull, Verstappen and Ricciardo formed a competitive partnership, often going head-to-head for race wins and podium finishes. Ricciardo, known for his aggressive driving style and resilience, was able to push Verstappen in ways that helped both drivers improve. Verstappen’s admiration for Ricciardo reflects a deep respect for his abilities and contributions to the team during their collaboration.

However, the reality of Formula 1 is that performance dictates a driver’s future. While Ricciardo’s talent was undeniable, his struggles in 2024 and the rise of new talent like Lawson left him vulnerable to losing his spot on the Red Bull grid. Despite the challenges, Verstappen’s praise provides a silver lining for Ricciardo, reaffirming his status as one of the most talented drivers in F1 during their shared years at Red Bull.

Verstappen’s assessment of Ricciardo also highlights the importance of team dynamics in Formula 1. Success in the sport is often influenced by the relationship between teammates, and Verstappen’s comments suggest that their rivalry helped both drivers grow. In particular, Ricciardo’s ability to challenge Verstappen during their time together is seen as a pivotal moment in Verstappen’s own development as a top-tier driver.

Looking ahead, Ricciardo’s future in Formula 1 remains uncertain. While his performance in 2024 may not have been up to his usual standards, Verstappen’s words are a reminder of the potential that Ricciardo has always possessed. With Verstappen acknowledging his contribution to his own career, Ricciardo’s place in F1 history is assured, regardless of the challenges he faces in securing a top seat in the future.
