Susie Wolff Gives Update on Her…read more 

Susie Wolff, the managing director of F1 Academy, has provided an update on her future within the series, hinting that her tenure in the role may not be indefinite. Wolff, who took on the position in March 2023, has overseen the inaugural seasons of the all-female racing series, which aims to foster and develop young female drivers, offering them a pathway to higher levels of motorsport, including Formula 1. While Wolff has expressed her commitment to building a sustainable and successful platform for emerging talent, she made it clear that her ultimate goal is to create a self-sufficient structure that doesn’t require her constant involvement.

Wolff’s role with F1 Academy comes with a unique perspective, given her own background as a former racing driver. This experience has undoubtedly made her a perfect fit for the position, allowing her to guide and mentor young women as they climb the motorsport ladder. The F1 Academy was launched as a direct response to the 2022 collapse of the W Series, which was another female-focused motorsport initiative. The new series, which is more closely tied to the F1 brand, was designed to provide a more structured and professional platform for female drivers, with the hope of eventually seeing some of them progress to the pinnacle of motorsport.

In her recent interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport, Wolff was asked whether she saw herself remaining in the role of managing director for the long-term or if she had other aspirations within the motorsport world. She responded thoughtfully, acknowledging that her current priority is to ensure the F1 Academy reaches a level of stability and success where it can operate without her having to actively push for its advancement. Wolff explained, “I want to get the F1 Academy to a point where it has very solid foundations and doesn’t need me to bang doors to make things happen.”
