Verstappen misery continues as star suffers embarrassing crash due to…read more

The 2025 Canadian Grand Prix weekend took an unexpected turn as reigning World Champion Max Verstappen experienced a challenging second practice session (FP2), adding to what has become a string of frustrating performances for the Red Bull star. Although Verstappen appeared strong in the earlier session, topping the timesheets in FP1, his fortunes quickly changed in the afternoon, leaving fans and pundits questioning whether his grip on dominance is starting to slip.

In stark contrast to his morning pace, Verstappen could only manage the ninth-fastest time in FP2, struggling to find balance and speed on a track that had looked promising just hours earlier. What made the session even more disappointing for the Dutchman was the fact that his performance was eclipsed by teams that are traditionally further down the grid. Both Williams drivers managed to outpace Verstappen in FP2, and Fernando Alonso, piloting the Aston Martin, also finished ahead of the Red Bull ace.

This latest setback adds to the growing concerns within the Red Bull camp. After years of near-flawless execution and pace, cracks are beginning to show in the armor of the team that has dominated the Formula 1 landscape in recent seasons. Verstappen, known for his consistency and exceptional racecraft, now finds himself grappling with uncharacteristic errors and setup issues that seem to have hampered Red Bull’s momentum in recent races.

Meanwhile, the session had its share of drama beyond Verstappen’s difficulties. Canadian driver Lance Stroll endured a particularly embarrassing moment in front of his home crowd. Stroll crashed early in FP2, losing control of his Aston Martin in what many considered a rookie mistake. The incident brought out a brief red flag and left the local fans disappointed as their hopes of seeing Stroll shine on home soil were dampened.

Stroll’s crash, while frustrating for the Aston Martin garage, highlighted the tricky nature of the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve. The track’s combination of tight chicanes and unforgiving barriers has caught out even the best drivers over the years, and it seemed to be no different this weekend. Fortunately, Stroll was unharmed and is expected to participate in the remainder of the weekend.

As for Verstappen, the Dutch driver will now look to regroup ahead of qualifying, where he will aim to rediscover the pace that has made him such a formidable competitor. Red Bull engineers will undoubtedly work through the night to address the issues uncovered in FP2, hoping to deliver a car that can challenge the resurgent competition.

The Canadian Grand Prix is shaping up to be one of the most unpredictable races of the season, with teams like Williams and Aston Martin showing surprising strength. Verstappen’s struggles, combined with Stroll’s costly error, have set the stage for what could be an exciting and closely contested battle come race day.

Fans will be watching closely to see if Verstappen can bounce back or if this weekend will further highlight the shifting dynamics in the 2025 Formula 1 season.
