JUST NOW: Dodgers manager Dave Roberts have signed 3 years contract extension due to….

I wholeheartedly agree with Dylan Hernández’s call for an extension of Dave Roberts’ contract. Beyond Hernández’s arguments, it’s important to note that Roberts manages a diverse roster with players spanning 15 years in age, from rookies to Hall of Famers, who speak three different languages. He excels at maintaining a calm and confident atmosphere in the dugout, showcasing people skills that are more critical than just assembling lineups or making in-game adjustments.

Despite the Dodgers’ impressive lineup over the past decade, some might say any competent manager could have led them to the playoffs. However, in Los Angeles, the goal isn’t merely playoff qualification—it’s winning championships. The issue arises in the playoffs, where Roberts’ pitching decisions have often been questionable. With better choices in 2017 and 2019, the Dodgers might have won both years. His insistence on repeating the same decisions despite past failures is particularly frustrating.

Walter Alston, a Hall of Fame manager, led the Dodgers from 1954 to 1976, signing 23 one-year contracts and winning four World Series titles and seven National League pennants. The Dodgers respected Alston, did not see him as a weak leader, and his one-year contracts did not hinder their success. The notion that the lack of an extension for Roberts might distract the team seems implausible.
