The struggles continue for NASCAR veteran Kyle Busch, and the frustration is starting to show. Following a disappointing run in the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway, the two-time NASCAR Cup Series champion didn’t hold back in his post-race comments. Busch, who finished 15th in the grueling 600-mile event, expressed his weariness over repeated misfortunes and underwhelming results.

“This feels like déjà vu,” Busch said candidly in a post-race interview. “I feel like a broken record saying another difficult night for our No. 8 Chevrolet team.”

The Charlotte race marked the fifth consecutive finish outside the top 10 for Busch, with his only notable result in the last nine races being a solid run at Darlington back in April. It’s been a tough stretch for the No. 8 team at Richard Childress Racing, and the Coca-Cola 600 was no exception.

Busch went on to explain the sequence of issues that plagued his weekend, starting with a mechanical failure. “The weekend began with a steering problem. We changed the pump just in time to make a qualifying lap,” he said. However, after making those repairs, the team discovered they needed to replace the steering rack altogether. That forced Busch to start the race at the rear of the field on Sunday.

During the race itself, the problems only compounded. Busch mentioned struggling with the car’s handling, particularly in dirty air—an issue that limited his ability to make up ground. His crew chief, Randall Burnett, made adjustments that improved the car’s performance, but a sudden mechanical failure derailed any progress.

“I heard a loud pop, and something just broke. We still don’t know exactly what it was, but from that point on, our day was basically over,” Busch recalled. A strategic gamble later in the race failed to pay off due to yet another issue on pit road, further cementing a forgettable evening for the No. 8 team.

Despite the disappointing finish, Busch took a moment to honor a fallen hero. “I want to thank the family of Fireman Jeffrey M. Svoboda for allowing us to run his name on the car this weekend. It was a true honor,” he said, referencing NASCAR’s Memorial Day tribute to fallen service members.

While things haven’t been easy on the track, Busch and Richard Childress Racing delivered some positive news off it. Just a day before the race, the team announced that Busch had signed a contract extension that will keep him behind the wheel of the No. 8 Chevrolet through the 2026 season. The move signals a vote of confidence in Busch’s abilities and the long-term vision of the team, despite the current performance struggles.

As the NASCAR season rolls on, all eyes will be on Busch and the No. 8 team to see if they can turn things around. For now, though, the veteran driver is left dealing with frustration and searching for answers.
