Lando Norris Matches Two Lewis Hamilton Records with Australian GP Victory

Lando Norris secured a historic victory at the 2025 Australian Grand Prix, marking his first-ever Formula 1 race win and matching two milestones previously set by Lewis Hamilton. The McLaren driver delivered a commanding performance in Melbourne, crossing the finish line ahead of Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc.

With this victory, Norris became the second British driver after Hamilton to win his first F1 race with McLaren. Hamilton achieved this feat in 2007 at the Canadian Grand Prix. Additionally, Norris set another milestone by becoming only the second British driver to win in Melbourne, a record also held by Hamilton, who won the Australian GP for the first time in 2008.

Norris, who had come close to victory multiple times in his career, expressed his excitement after the race. “It feels incredible. This is a moment I’ve been dreaming of for years. The team did an amazing job, and to finally get this win is just unbelievable,” he said.

The race saw an intense battle among the front-runners, with Norris executing a brilliant strategy to stay ahead of Verstappen, who struggled with tire wear. A late safety car threatened to shake up the order, but Norris kept his composure and controlled the restart to maintain his lead until the checkered flag.

McLaren team principal Andrea Stella praised Norris’s performance, calling it a “perfectly executed race.” The win boosts Norris’s championship hopes and signals McLaren’s growing competitiveness against Red Bull and Ferrari.

As the F1 season continues, Norris’s victory adds a new dynamic to the title fight, proving that McLaren is ready to challenge for more race wins. With his maiden triumph, Norris has firmly cemented himself as one of the sport’s rising stars.
